anyway,

HORSES.

Why do we build our lives around horses? Stories, conversations, and community built around what that pursuit gives us, what it costs us, and who we become in the process.

If you’ve landed here, there’s a good chance you’re the kind of person who feels like horses aren’t just something that you fit into your life; they’re the thing you build your life around.

You might be just starting your journey to build a life around this obsessive passion, you might be reinventing yourself in the horse world right now as you read this, you might be reaching new goals and achieving the big things, or you might be constantly asking yourself “why is this so hard? Am I making the right choices?”

No matter where you are on the ‘make horses your life’ spectrum, or what phase of life you’re in, your financial situation, how close you are to your goals, what you’re doing for a career, or even what discipline you ride, there are common threads that connect us all: we can’t imagine not structuring our entire life around horses, we need to follow this passion, and this life - regardless of what shape it takes (and there are many) - requires tough decisions, sacrifices, and a lot of resilience and perserverence .

This is more than liking horses. It’s more than fitting them in. It’s a dream, a calling, an obsession…

it’s just who we are.

a note from the founder

I’m Erin Lane, and I created anyway, horses.’after more than two decades of trying to build a life around horses in just about every way I could.

I have been a rider since I was nine years old, and my path through the horse world has been anything but linear. I’ve ridden multiple disciplines, been an amateur and a professional, run a training and sales business, worked as an equestrian journalist and media producer, helped create and produce major educational and documentary-style projects in the horse industry, interviewed and worked with some of the biggest names in the sport, and spent years having the kinds of conversations with horse people that rarely make it into public view.

I’ve also had plenty of my own moments of wondering what on earth I was doing, whether any of it was going to work out, and why I could not seem to choose an easier, simpler, more practical thing to build my life around.

But horses have always been the constant.

Through my own experiences, and through years of conversations with people across the horse world, I have become fascinated by the same questions over and over again:

Why do we build our lives around horses?

What does this pursuit give us?

What does it cost us?

And who do we become in the process?

That is what ‘anyway, horses.’ is here to explore. The stories, choices, sacrifices, ambitions, identity crises, hard moments, wonderful moments, and deep, irrational drive and passion that comes with building a life centered around horses.

For the people doing it any way they can.

For the people who keep going anyway.

For the people who always find a way to turn the conversation back to:

“so anyway... horses.”

I’d love to have you with us.

This is for the horse people who love the horses first, but still have goals.

The people who care about partnership and still want to compete, or build a business, or succeed in or out of the ring in a meaningful way.

The people who are building a career, changing direction, chasing the big dreams, starting over, coming back to riding and giving it their all, moving up, finding a new direction, or trying to figure out what their place in the horse world looks like now.

It is for the people who know horses shape every aspect of our lives - they aren’t just fit in here and there - and want a publication, platform, & community that takes that seriously while still feeling like the heart & soul of it all matters.
